Dr. Nick Serio
Founder & CEO
Dr. Nick Serio, earning his Doctorate of Education in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Western States, established Athletes Warehouse in 2014 and extended his commitment to athlete empowerment with the founding of Velo University in 2020. His unwavering mission is to reshape the conventional perspective on the development of student-athletes and usher in a new era of athletic excellence.
Cassie Reilly-Boccia
Director of Operations / Co-Owner
Cassie, a Sports Performance Specialist and Co-Owner of Athletes Warehouse & VeloU, holds a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Alabama and a Masters in Biomechanics from the University of Northern Iowa. A four-year starter for the Alabama Crimson Tide Softball team, Cassie achieved remarkable success, winning three Southeastern Conference Championships and a National Championship in her senior year. Additionally, she is the author of the book, "Finished It - A Team's Journey to Winning it All," and a distinguished member of the NYS Softball Hall of Fame.
Stephen Portee
Director of Training
Stephen Portee, Director of Training at VeloU, is a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach with an M.S. in Exercise Science from Montclair State University, overseeing all training activities with a focus on improving body awareness and movement quality. His specialized expertise includes enhancing strength and power, with a commitment to refining sprinting, plyometric training, and flexibility conditioning for a positive and productive athlete experience.
Jason Agresti
Director of BackstopU
As the Director of BackStopU at VeloU, Jason, a former 4-year starter at SUNY Binghamton University and professional baseball player with a degree in Business Administration, is dedicated to bringing new-age catching instruction to emerging catchers, drawing from his experience with teams like the Rockland Boulders and the Sussex County Miners. Balancing coaching, pursuing a master's degree, and offseason preparation, Jason is committed to helping catchers advance to the next level.
Kenny Hayden
Media & Marketing Director
As the Director of Media & Marketing at VeloU, Kenny leverages his five years of experience as a division one baseball outfielder at the University At Albany. Having trained at Athletes Warehouse since its inception in 2014 and with Dr. Nick Serio for four years prior, Kenny brings a unique perspective to his role. He is responsible for creating and overseeing all digital content across VeloU channels, contributing his firsthand knowledge of athletic training.
Sam Byrns
Director of Remote Training
Sam, a performance coach with a versatile background in pitching and performance, holds a Masters in Business Administration from St. John’s University, where he previously served as the baseball team's strength and conditioning coach. His journey includes playing on the LeMoyne College baseball team's pitching staff while earning his bachelor's degree. Currently, Sam serves as the pitching coach at his alma mater, Fox Lane High School.
Thomas Jankins
Throwing Coordinator
Tom, a Quinnipiac University graduate with a bachelor's degree in business management and a former baseball player drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2016 MLB draft, pitched for 7 seasons in the minor leagues, reaching AAA. In the offseason, he served as a throwing instructor across multiple facilities in NY, CT, and MA. After concluding his playing career, Tom transitioned to work as an analyst for a consulting company, bringing a data-driven approach to enhance athlete performance.
Paul Franzese
Performance Coach
Paul, a SUNY Cortland graduate with a Bachelors in fitness development and a M.A. in exercise science, brings a wealth of experience as a former baseball team captain. During his time at Cortland, he also served as a biomechanics lab instructor for two years. Passionate about pushing and improving the next generation of athletes, Paul is dedicated to shaping the future of athletic development.
Mike Hernandez
Performance Coach
Mike, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified FRC Mobility Specialist (FRCms) with a B.S. degree in Health Science from Boston University, brings extensive experience coaching elite-level athletes from multiple sports, including a tenure with the Boston Red Sox organization where he played a key role in developing the organization's youngest and brightest draft prospects.
Aidan Curry
Throwing Coach
Aidan, a recent addition to our staff as a throwing coach this off-season, brings a wealth of experience as a high-school free agent signee in 2020 by the Texas Rangers. Finishing the '23 season with the Hickory Crawdads, he achieved a remarkable 2.75 ERA over 88.1 IP, striking out 104 batters with a .178 BAA. Aidan, who was awarded the Carolina League Pitcher of the Year, is currently ranked as the #16 prospect in the Rangers organization by MLB. Eager to share his knowledge, he assists VeloU athletes before heading to Spring Training in late February. Having been a VeloU athlete since 2020, he continues to train with us.
Tim Wilson
Director of Nutrition
Tim, the Director of Athletic Nutrition, holds a B.S. in Exercise Science from Mercy College and certifications from the Nutrition Coaching Institute and International Society of Sports Nutrition. With a background spanning 20 years at the City of White Plains Fire Department, Tim is committed to providing tailored nutrition plans that support athletes' training programs and optimize their performance.
